Covid-19: We are manufacturing, working and supplying as normal in-line with government guidelines
The Borough of Lehighton is situated upon the western bank of the Lehigh River, in southern Carbon County, Pennsylvania, USA.
Lehighton Light & Power has been supplying electricity to customers in this area since 1943!
Power is distributed to its customers via wooden utility poles. Unfortunately, poles planted in the ground are attacked by wood-decaying organisms reducing the strength of the pole and leading to early pole failure.
To prevent this, Lehighton Light and Power began using Polesaver barrier sleeves in 2017. Polesaver Sleeves are designed to prevent wooden poles from ground-line rot. After being applied to the pole, the Polesaver dual layer barrier sleeve forms an airtight and watertight seal – excluding all the elements that are needed for decay to occur. Because the ground-line section of the pole is now isolated from the causes of decay, the wooden pole will maintain 100% of its strength over the duration of its service life.
Lonny Armbruster, Lehighton Light and Power’s Superintendent, said he was excited to have been made aware of a solution to prevent ground-line decay. Polesaver has been manufacturing products that have been safeguarding in-ground posts and poles from decay, since 1994.
“The technology has a proven in-service track record with more than 8 million barrier sleeves sold worldwide over 25 years. This track record, coupled with extensive independent test data from European and USA testing establishments made the decision to invest in Polesaver “very easy,” said Mr Armbruster.
“Polesaver is a tried and test product with an excellent reputation. The sleeves are sent to us directly from the United Kingdom and our people apply them quickly and easily to the new poles in our pole yard. The Polesaver protected poles are then transported to site and erected.”
Richard George, Polesaver’s CEO, said he was pleased that Lehighton Light and Power were now an established customer of Polesaver UK and he looked forward to supplying the barrier sleeves for many years to come.
Polesaver protection sleeves prevent ground rot in wood utility poles and increase pole life by +20 years from the start, regardless of wood preservative type.
Polesaver ground-line barrier sleeves are a dual-layer, high-performance sleeve that prevents ground rot in wooden utility poles and gives an expected utility pole life of 50 years.

*Polesaver uses long term independent test data on the effectiveness of barrier sleeves and fire protection fabric to reach all the conclusions given on this website (test data available on request). Based on this data, Polesaver believes longer life, maintenance of strength over time, improved safety and reliability, extended inspection periods and reduced maintenance requirements are reasonable claims. This is subject to Polesaver products being correctly applied as per our instructions and used on correctly preservative treated (for long term in-ground use - use class 4 or higher) wooden utility poles that are free of decay at the time of sleeve application. The claims made, real or implied are not warranties. It is the responsibility of the user to evaluate and satisfy themselves that the performance of the product meets their specific safety, reliability, extended inspection, repair and any other performance or cost-benefit criteria before using Polesaver sleeves or fire protection fabric.
